VIBRAVISION – See vibration in Brattørbrua

Visualization of the dynamic characteristics in Brattørbrua, Trondheim

Brattørbrua is a bridge in Trondheim, which has been in trouble. Recently it was out of operation for several days, due to that a wire went off and a bridge flap came out of position when the bridge was opened.

Momentum caught the bridge on film, with the purpose to look into the dynamic characteristics. In the video you see a video amplification, where motions not visible to the eye are visualized.

Visualization is one of the tools included in Momentum Technologies’ video based services VIBRAVISION. Learn more about VIBRAVISION here.

VIBRAVISION – See vibration in tower cranes

Visualization of dynamic response to tower cranes

Most often we in Momentum Technologies are into the dynamics of pipework, for example assessing piping vibration problems and how to reduce the energy of motion. However, harmonic motions are all around us and with VIBRAVISION, our services for video based vibration measurement and visualization, we can literally look into the dynamics to other type of constructions. Like a couple of tower cranes at a building site here in Trondheim, as we have made in the video above.

In the video you see the original video recording to the left. To the right is the same video recording, but where motion is reinforced – so that we shall be able to see if there is any motion in the crane. At this tim there is vibration in the tower cranes, and we are able to see the dynamic response to the tower cranes during lifting operations.

ONS 2018 Exhibitor

Founded in 1974, ONS has developed into a global energy meeting place connecting international suppliers, operating companies and decision makers. ONS takes place every second year in Stavanger, Norway. This year the event is held 27 – 30 August 2018, and the theme is “Innovate”. Momentum Technologies will participate of course! Our stand is located in exhibition … Read moreVisit us at ONS 2018

Vibration isolator calculator

Vicoda elastomeric devices

Vibration isolation can be used to solve two types of problems: To avoid resonance of the machine itself. To limit vibrations from being transmitted to other components (pipes, machines etc.) connected to the same foundation as the machine. Isolators can in many cases also be used to loosen up existing pipe supports in order to … Read moreVibration isolator calculator

Pipe vibration assessment

Pipe failure - Crack in pipe due to vibration

Background Having control over vibration might seem like a daunting task. On one side there are many sources to vibration, ie. pulsation, flow, external forces, machinery. On the other hand, there are many mechanical structures that can be put into motion, ie. internal components, pipes, main structure, valves. When you know that Vibration = Force * … Read morePipe vibration assessment

Support calculator: Calculation of maximum recommended pipe length between supports

Straight pipe with supports

Background A simple support will increase the mechanical stiffness of the pipelines and make it more robust against vibration. This tool is intended to be used as an aid for operational personnel at a process facility for doing a rough estimate of recommended maximum distances between supports. The calculator is not meant to be a … Read moreSupport calculator: Calculation of maximum recommended pipe length between supports

Presenting: Vibration toolbox by Momentum Technologies

Vibration toolbox

To get in control, is mostly about understanding. If you understand the cause and mechanisms behind, you are often able to identify both possibilities and risks. In Momentum Technologies we are committed to vibration control. Our ambition is to always understand the problem – finding the root cause, assess the severity and – if needed … Read morePresenting: Vibration toolbox by Momentum Technologies

EFRC Vibration criteria

Horizontal compressor

EFRC (the European Forum for Reciprocating Compressors)  has within their guidelines, defined criterias for vibration assessment of reciprocating compressors. Measurements of vibrations at the main parts of the compressor individually may only give a rough indication of the stress levels. In order to enable a more holistic and reliable vibration assessment of the compressor, you … Read moreEFRC Vibration criteria

Vibration problems?

Resonance

Vibrations may be triggered from a variety of sources. When vibrations coincidently match the eigenfrequencies of a structure, resonance occure which can end up in catastrophic result. Understanding and controlling this amplification factor is the key to a safe and healthy process plant. A simple clamp on damper can do the job of reducing over 90% … Read moreVibration problems?
